News Agribusiness Insights Report released Agribusiness Insights Report released

The fourth annual Agribusiness Insights Report has been released, providing a snapshot of Tasmania’s agricultural sector.

The 2023-24 Report was developed, in consultation with industry and key stakeholders and features information on industry performance, emerging opportunities, threats and trends over the last year.

The Insights Report identified that drought particularly impacted livestock and dairy sectors during the reporting period along with the importance of access to irrigation schemes. A dry winter and spring aided planting conditions, however the irrigation season began earlier and finished later than normal to help establish crops and maintain fodder.

This resulted in sectors such as fruit and wine managing the past season relatively well with the availability of irrigation water supporting the yield results.

The report also highlighted that the livestock industry, with support of Government, is moving towards improving traceability with the sheep and goat eID program. Exports have continued to grow showing the high quality and demand for Tasmanian produce and increasing visitor numbers are having a positive effect on agri-tourism businesses and exports.

Being responsive to change is a key action in Tasmania’s Competitiveness of Tasmanian Agriculture for 2050 White Paper. The annual Insights Report reflects the dynamic nature of industry challenges and opportunities.
