Farming Together: How primary producers are preparing for a challenging future

Innovation, technology and engagement with ethical consumers are the keys to the future of food production, according to the head of a national sustainability program.

Lorraine Gordon has spent the past two years working with 28,000 farmers, fishers and foresters as the director of Southern Cross University's Farming Together initiative.

Ms Gordon said she has aimed to bring people together to find solutions to the challenges — among them climate change — of primary production.

"I see strong social communities, farmers making money back at the farm gate, with the environment intact," Ms Gordon said.

"I'm seeing incredible young people with so much passion for the land and the new science.
