Post harvest treatment of some fruits with fenthion is no longer permitted (November 2012)

The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) decision means that post harvest treatment of some fruits with the insecticide fenthion is no longer permitted. This may affect some of those who import fruit into Tasmania, but will not affect Tasmanian producers (as Tasmania is fruit fly free).

If you think the new restrictions on fenthion use may affect you, please check the APVMA website.

Import Requirement 8B in the Plant Quarantine Manual Tasmania relates to the use of fenthion as a post harvest treatment for imports of fruit fly host produce. This will now be amended to advise importers of the APVMA's decision.
