Over the last four years, the 'Water for Profit' program has equipped Tasmanian farmers and service providers with the skills and information needed to increase profits and sustainability.
It has demonstrated that practical research and innovation is critical to maximising the benefits from the investment in irrigation.
The comprehensive Agri-Food Plan sets out the path to grow the value of Tasmania's agricultural exports ten-fold to $10 billion/year by 2050, and irrigation development has a major role in achieving this target.
The State Government has committed to increasing its contribution to the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture to a total of $28 million over five years, as well as investing an additional $7 million to modernise the State's research farms.
